Summer Food Service Program

Summer is often the hungriest time of year for families with children, since suddenly they can no longer depend on free school breakfasts and lunches. They must scramble to afford 10 additional meals per child per week.

Second Harvest sponsors SFSP at sites throughout Middle and West Tennessee each summer. Through this program, we provided more than 5,000 breakfasts and lunches in the summer of 2023 to help ensure low-income children continued to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.

Free meals that meet Federal nutrition guidelines are provided to all children at SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children. SFSP sites include community centers, libraries, day camps, schools, and other programs that also offer enrichment and fun activities for children over the summer.
