Summer Food Service Program

Summer is often the hungriest time of year for families with children, since suddenly they can no longer depend on free school breakfasts and lunches. They must scramble to afford 10 additional meals per child per week.

Second Harvest sponsors the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) at sites throughout Middle Tennessee each summer. Through this program we provide breakfasts, lunches, or suppers to help ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.

In FY21, SFSP provided 23,431 breakfasts and lunches to 1,320 participating children.

Free meals that meet Federal nutrition guidelines are provided to all children at SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children. SFSP sites include community centers, libraries, day camps, schools, and other programs that also offer enrichment and fun activities for children over the summer.
