Virtual Book Club | Evicted

Date

Feb 22

Time

5:30 pm

Our virtual book club selection for February is the Pulitzer Prize-winning Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City.

In it, Princeton sociologist Matthew Desmond follows eight families in Milwaukee as they each struggle to keep a roof over their heads. Hailed as “wrenching and revelatory” by The Nation, Evicted transforms our understanding of poverty and economic exploitation while providing fresh ideas for solving one of 21st century America’s most devastating problems. Its unforgettable scenes of hope and loss remind us of the centrality of home, without which nothing else is possible.

Here at Second Harvest, we believe that an important part of feeding hungry people and working to solve hunger issues in our community is learning more about them. Read the book, and then join us online where we’ll discuss what we learned and how it relates to  food insecurity and the work we do to feed hungry people.

This free, educational event is designed with Second Harvest volunteers in mind, but there’s no volunteer component and everyone is welcome. Recommended for ages 16 and older.
