Gabby and Scott Dannemiller live in Franklin with their two lively children — Jake, 10, and Audrey, 8. As big believers in volunteerism, the couple wanted to find a place where they could serve as a family. After careful thought, they chose Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.

As volunteers, Gabby, Scott and their kids have spent much of their time dedicated to helping with the BackPack Program — preparing and organizing food for schoolchildren. During one of their shifts, they assembled 750 BackPacks, which they later learned was only a fraction of the weekly goal at Second Harvest — a reminder of the great need in the community for this program.

On the ride home from one of their workdays, Gabby recalls a discussion she and her husband had with the kids. They talked about the BackPacks and how much the boys and girls who would later receive them relied on them for their weekend meals.

Understanding that there was a child just like them that counted on each backpack really gave Jake and Audrey perspective on the important work they were doing together as a family.

In addition to volunteering their time, Gabby and Scott are also financial supporters of Second Harvest. They do this because they know their gifts will be used to make the greatest possible impact right here in Middle Tennessee.

“We are humbled and honored to be a small part of working to end hunger with this great organization,” Gabby says, extending an invitation for others to give back in whatever way they are able. “You get much more than you give!”
