At Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, we are committed to helping families in need in our 46 county service area. However, when major disasters occur outside of Middle Tennessee, we are called to help.

Thanks to an incredible volunteer effort, Second Harvest sent 61,152 Disaster Relief Boxes to hurricane victims.

In just 3 months, 1,518 volunteers filled over 35 truckloads of disaster relief boxes. Depending on their size, the boxes provided 10.5 or 25 meals to families who were affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Hurricane Harvey dumped 27 trillion gallons of rain on Texas and caused an estimated $65 billion dollars in property damage. Less than two weeks later, Hurricane Irma made landfall on the Florida Keys destroying 25% of the homes on the island chain and causing power outages and flooding from South Florida to North Georgia.

With such a large need in such a short period of time, Second Harvest is happy to have been able to help our neighbors in need outside of Tennessee, and we’re grateful for the many volunteers who made this relief effort possible.
