Lifepoint Health: Making Communities Healthier Year After Year

In an effort to fight hunger and increase food access, Lifepoint Health has provided over 3 million meals—and counting—to those in need.

Previously, our friends at Lifepoint Health sponsored and volunteered at a Mobile Pantry that provided over 24,000 pounds of food to 141 families and 878 people.

That in itself is an impressive contribution, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg of what Lifepoint has done to fight food insecurity and increase access to healthy foods in Middle Tennessee.

FEEDING HEALTH

For the seventh year, we’ve partnered with Lifepoint during Nutrition Month in an effort to make communities healthier.

As a leading healthcare company, Lifepoint knows those struggling with hunger are at a higher risk of developing diet-related illnesses like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Managing these chronic diseases can further drain a family’s limited resources and trap them in a cycle of hunger and health issues.

Lifepoint wants to stop this cycle before it can even begin, so over these last seven years, they have committed to fighting hunger and increasing access to whole, nutritious food.

To date, Lifepoint has helped us distribute over 3 million pounds of fresh produce, distributed more than 770,000 pounds of food through 36 Mobile Pantries, donated 2,426 hours volunteering, and added necessary equipment to our fleet.

This number will only grow as Lifepoint continues to provide fresh produce, host Mobile Pantries, and volunteer throughout the rest of the year.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Many businesses say they want to make a difference. Lifepoint Health made it their mission. This dedication to fighting hunger comes directly from their employees.

“We live in a really big world, and there should be enough food for everyone,” Andra Wilson, Lifepoint Executive Administrative Assistant, said.

“When I work at Second Harvest events, I know I am making a difference and that hungry people get fed. It’s as simple as that, hungry people get fed and it’s beautiful.”

Enacting change that will decrease hunger and increase food access aren’t always simple, but Lifepoint’s understanding of how hunger affects health, commitment to providing healthy foods, and enthusiasm for volunteer work are turning these ambitious goals into reality.
