Honoring a Legacy of Leadership

After 17 years of dedicated service, Kim Molnar, the Chief Operating Officer of Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, is retiring. Kim’s journey with Second Harvest began in the Project Preserve area, where she brought valuable food industry expertise, having managed her own company as a Food Broker. Her leadership and innovative strategies have significantly contributed to the exponential growth and impact of Second Harvest in Middle and West Tennessee.

Kim’s career at Second Harvest is marked by numerous achievements that have left a lasting legacy. Starting as the Director of Business Development for Project Preserve, Kim excelled in her role, driving the success of the program. In 2010, when Second Harvest was searching for leadership in the Agency & Program Services department, Kim stepped in as interim VP and was later promoted to the position. Her dedication and ability to manage complex operations led her to also take on the role of VP of Project Preserve in 2011, effectively overseeing both departments and ensuring their success.

One of Kim’s most notable accomplishments was her focus on building Second Harvest’s social enterprise and Innovative Meal Solutions program. Under her leadership, Project Preserve became a vital component of Second Harvest’s mission, leveraging economies of scale to source food from manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors. This initiative allowed the assembly of custom food boxes, such as diabetic-friendly options, which are distributed to the community through our Partners. The Innovative Meal Solutions program, another testament to Kim’s vision, prepares nourishing and delicious tray-packed meals that are easy to cook, ensuring that anyone can have a nutrient-filled meal in minutes.

Kim also championed the introduction of a wide range of new food options for our neighbors. When she first joined Second Harvest, the organization primarily relied on shelf-stable and processed foods. Recognizing the need for more nutritious options, Kim spearheaded initiatives to bring fresh produce, meat, dairy, and culturally relevant foods to Second Harvest. Thanks to her efforts, our neighbors now receive high-quality food that supports their well-being and empowers them to thrive in their communities.

Kim’s influence has been profound, and her ability to bring people together for a common cause has been instrumental in the organization’s success. As she steps into retirement, she leaves behind a powerful legacy of compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to ending hunger.

Second Harvest is committed to building on Kim’s work and continuing to make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Her legacy will remain a guiding force as we move forward in our mission to nourish and empower our communities so they can thrive. Thank you, Kim, for all you have done in the fight against hunger.
