Want to know why truck drivers are essential?
Fighting hunger takes many hands. And wheels. Every day, our dedicated team of truck drivers keeps our mission moving forward. Without them, millions of pounds of food would never make it to the families who need it most.
Truck drivers are the vital link in our hunger relief chain. Their work may not always be seen, but it is always essential.
Last year, Second Harvest rescued over 30 million pounds of safe-to-eat food from grocery stores. On top of that, we distributed over 50.8 million pounds of food, including 16.4 million pounds of produce. None of that would be possible without drivers picking up and delivering that food.
That’s why truck drivers are essential.
Drivers also deliver food to more than 600 Partner Agencies across our 46-county service area. Whether it’s a rural church pantry, a community center, or a Mobile Pantry site, our drivers make sure shelves are stocked and families have the resources they need.
That means our drivers are responsible for over 30,000 square miles in Middle and West Tennessee.
At our Mobile Markets, truck drivers have become a part of the community they deliver to. Our drivers have grown to become on a first-name basis with many community members they support. They are now more than drivers. They have become trusted neighbors.

For many, a driver’s smile at the back of a truck is a reminder that someone cares.
Truck drivers are the first line of defense against hunger. They make it possible for Second Harvest to provide food for today and hope for tomorrow.
During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and beyond, we celebrate these hardworking men and women who keep our mission on the move.
