Sean Grossnickle: “I knew the pandemic had hit many hard and I wanted to give back”

This January, Second Harvest is highlighting a former member of the Peace Corps who wants to give back during the pandemic.

When did you start volunteering with Second Harvest?

I started volunteering with Second Harvest in college, when I realized the real need that exists in my community. When I returned from the Peace Corps, I knew the pandemic had hit many hard and I wanted to give back.

What is your favorite volunteer opportunity?

I enjoy the dry food sorting, it is so fun to see what comes in from the stores!

Describe your favorite volunteer memory?

My favorite memories are the people I work with and the strange food that comes my way. Most recent strange finds included a chicken sriracha protein bar and unicorn rice crispy kits.

Why it is important for you to volunteer?

Volunteering not only helps your community but spreads gratitude. It reminds you of what you have been given and how that can be used to bless those around you as well. Consistent volunteers are every organization’s dream, so go and support the causes dearest to you!

Is there anything else you would like people to know about Second Harvest?

The people at Second Harvest truly care for those they serve and would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. There are so many ways they can help your community, so make sure to ask!
