Terri: “I believe that it’s important to give back when you can.”

This February, Second Harvest Food Bank is honoring a volunteer who regularly donates their time to fight hunger in their community.

When did you start volunteering with Second Harvest?

In January 2021.

What is your favorite volunteer opportunity and favorite volunteer memory?

I would say my favorite volunteer opportunity would be the dry food sort. I love seeing so many different moving parts work together to get a job done. Anytime I’m working the dry food sort, everyone just jumps in wherever they see a need. My second favorite would definitely be the “backpack project”.

My favorite memory would be helping new volunteers. Since I volunteer regularly many times the staff will let me help new volunteers understand a task or help them complete it. It’s nice to know you’re doing a good job and can help lead when needed.

Why it is important for you to volunteer?

I believe that it’s important to give back when you can. Many times I feel like people, including myself, aren’t always able to give back financially, so I think it’s so important to give your time when you can.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about Second Harvest?

Come volunteer! You will have a great time working with great people. You will leave with such a sense of accomplishment and purpose.
