Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is seeking skilled and lead volunteers to help us in the fight against hunger!

We’re currently looking for individuals who can lend their expertise to support specific needs across the organization. Below are areas where we could use your help. If you're interested in opportunities, please fill out the appropriate forms below.

Skilled and Lead Volunteer Opportunities

Second Harvest is looking for a skilled volunteer to assist us at the front desk. This role will be with our front desk coordinator and will start with training, then will move to regular shifts on your own.

You will assist with covering the front desk when our front desk coordinator takes breaks, is out on vacation, or is sick. This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to get involved with the Food Bank outside of the warehouse! Our shift time for this is flexible, but ideally about 4 hours/week (10 AM – 2 PM, Monday-Friday is the most needed time).

The ideal volunteer for this position will possess an upbeat attitude, great communication skills, and must be able to work under pressure and make visitors feel appreciated and important!

Tasks will vary and may include: 
  • Greet and assist visitors, volunteers, clients, and donors.
  • Answer general inquiries about the food bank.
  • Operate a telephone console to answer incoming calls and direct calls to the appropriate staff member, or satellite location.
Volunteer Guidelines: 
  • Closed-toe shoes are required for all volunteers. No exceptions! Volunteers wearing sandals or flip-flops will not be allowed to volunteer. 
  • Volunteers will be seated the entire shift.
  • Business casual attire.

Second Harvest is in search of Registered Dietitians and/or nutritionists to lend their time and expertise to help us serve our mission. Our mission is to nourish and empower people so they can thrive, and nutrition education is a huge step towards achieving this.

Volunteers will be teaching Nutrition 101 classes to our partner agencies from our curriculum but will be able to add extra information as they see fit. Classes will last 1-1.5 hours, and teaching materials will be provided.

These classes will occur throughout our 46-county service area, so travel is required, but the schedule is flexible.

Second Harvest is looking for volunteers to assist with data analytics projects within our IT department. We are specifically looking for volunteers with PowerBI, SQL, Netsuite, and other data analytics experience.

Volunteers will assist with projects that will help Second Harvest gain a better understanding of our mission-critical data that will lead to deeper insights that drive our operations, programs, and service to our neighbors!

This fully remote opportunity is on an “as needed” basis; volunteers will be added to a pool and contacted when a project calls for their specific skillset.
