A cancer diagnosis is life changing. The uncertainty, fear, and challenges cancer bring are hard enough to bear without the added weight of food insecurity.
On National Cancer Day, Second Harvest is keeping our neighbors in our thoughts who battled these two difficult realties.
Neighbors like Marsha.

Marsha’s journey has been one of resilience. She moved to Tennessee to follow her dreams of songwriting. Her dreams were put on pause when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
For four years, she faced the fight of her life. Now, she’s celebrating a victory. Recently, she completed her final treatment and rang the bell. She is cancer-free.
Cancer brought more than just chemotherapy, though. Marsha and her 29-year-old son, Adam, struggled to afford the basics while paying for her treatments.
Thanks to your support, they can turn to Second Harvest for help.
“This has been a hard four years,” Marsha shared. “We’ve not had what we normally do have, and we’ve been struggling. This is a Godsend.”
On National Cancer Day, Marsha’s story shows the power of community. While she fought for her health, her community stood beside her. Your support helped keep her lifeline alive.
