Helping People Help People

Lakeshia has devoted her life to helping others. Having previously worked at a skills development center for people with disabilities, she knows what it means to be there for those in her community.

Lakeshia is a devoted mother to her three children, ages 20, 15, and six, but recently has had a harder time making ends meet. Rising grocery bills on top of the ever-increasing cost of living in Middle Tennessee are pushing families like Lakeshia’s to their breaking point.

“Bills. Groceries. Eggs. It’s a lot,” Lakeshia shared.

Lakeshia is not alone in the effort to stay afloat. Currently, 1 in 8 people in Middle and West Tennessee are food insecure, meaning they do not have reliable access to quality, affordable food.

Thankfully, Lakeshia heard about a food box distribution at Second Harvest Partner Agency, First Baptist Church Shelbyville. This was only Lakeshia’s second time attending a food distribution, but the relief on her budget has already greatly impacted her family.

“This right here is a blessing to everybody who needs it. I love helping people, so this is like, ‘Thank you, Lord!'”

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of children, families, and seniors in Middle and West Tennessee.
