Free summer meals are an important part of Second Harvest’s mission.
Across Middle and West Tennessee, over 116,000 children face hunger. When school is out for summer, many lose access to the school meals they depend on during the school year.
Families suddenly need to provide an extra 10 meals per child every week. This can feel overwhelming.

Brennan is one of those children.
Brennan lives near a Second Harvest Partner. That means he’s often first in line for a snack, and he loves that.
“First, we get our snack, then we get to go outside or play in the gym,” Brennan says.
Brennan and his friends usually play football outside. Inside, there’s a gym, an arcade, and even a computer lab. But none of that is fun when you’re hungry.
“When I’m hungry, it can make it kinda hard to play outside,” he says. “My favorite is the juice,” Brennan says with a smile.
That’s why free summer meals are so important.
The Hunger Free Summer campaign ensures that kids like Brennan get the nutrition they need when school is closed.
Second Harvest is working hard to provide free summer meals across 46 counties. We can’t do it without your help.
You can make a difference. Volunteer, host a food drive, or donate. Just $1 provides 4 meals. That is enough to help a child like Brennan enjoy a healthy snack. That way, he can worry about playing with friends and focus on being a kid.
