Cause marketing is a mutually beneficial partnership between a for-profit and a nonprofit like Second Harvest. Cause marketing is a great way for your business to increase sales, visibility, and customer loyalty while raising awareness of hunger in our community.
The 2017 Cone Communication/Echo Global CSR Study found that global consumers feel a personal accountability to address social and environmental issues and look to companies as partners in progress:
- 63% of Americans are hopeful businesses will take the lead to drive social and environmental change moving forward, in the absence of government regulation
- 78% want companies to address important social justice issues
- 87% will purchase a product because a company advocated for an issue they cared about
- 76% will refuse to purchase a company’s products or services upon learning it supported an issue contrary to their beliefs
An example of Cause Marketing is the Publix Food for All campaign, which raised over $170,000 for Second Harvest in 2016.

Approval Process
- Business submits Cause Marketing Application
- Second Harvest reviews application
- Second Harvest contacts business to confirm details
- Upon approval, Second Harvest generates agreement
- Business returns a signed copy of cause marketing agreement
- Business submits promotional material to Second Harvest for copy review and approval
- Second Harvest issues written approval to proceed with campaign elements
Please Note: A signed Cause Marketing Agreement must be on file and you must have written approval to use Second Harvest’s name, logo, tagline and/or program logos (“Marks”).
