Amazon Delivers Hope to Middle and West Tennesseans In Need

This past April 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and when Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee was experiencing unprecedented need, Amazon stepped in to help deliver hope to Middle and West Tennesseans in need of food.

Through their Community Delivery program, the company partnered with Second Harvest to provide free home delivery of food boxes to households that had no transportation or were quarantining. In total, Amazon delivery partners have distributed an estimated 108,500 meals to children, families, and seniors who were struggling with hunger amid the pandemic.

“We’re thankful for the opportunity to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank and the ability to utilize our delivery network to get produce and shelf stable food directly to Nashville residents’ homes that are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19,” said David Alperson, vice president, Amazon Logistics, and Second Harvest board member.

This support continued in November 2020, when Second Harvest again partnered with Amazon to deliver more than 30,000 pounds of fresh produce and other food items for the Thanksgiving holiday to both Nashville families who were quarantining and seniors in assisted living facilities.

Throughout 2021, Amazon will continue its Community Delivery support to help Second Harvest get food to those in need.

“We are thankful to Amazon for their continued support of Second Harvest’s mission, including our ongoing COVID-19 pandemic response,” said Nancy Keil, president and CEO of Second Harvest. “Their generosity is enabling our organization to continue to meet the increased needs of our Middle and West Tennessee neighbors and provide food to those who need it most in our community.”

AMAZON FUNDS FUEL HUNGER RELIEF

Over the past several years, Amazon has generously donated more than $615,000 to Second Harvest’s hunger relief efforts across our Middle and West Tennessee’s service area. This includes funding Children’s Feeding Programs and other essential programs working to address food insecurity, as well as providing food and other resources for Tornado Disaster Response. Recently, Amazon donated $325,000 to support Second Harvest’s in-school food pantries and BackPack initiative.  Additionally, numerous of Amazon employees have also donated their time, helping sort and pack food items for those facing hunger during Second Harvest volunteer shifts.

“The pandemic has intensified the need for hunger relief. Amazon is committed to playing our part by donating our services and leveraging our scale for good to help address food insecurity and meet the basic needs of families in the Middle Tennessee region,” said Andrea Muscadin, Amazon’s Head of Right Now Needs Partnerships. “We are proud to have a longstanding community partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
