Friends of the Food Bank Chair Description

Friends of the Food Bank Chairs will serve as the leads for Friends of the Food Bank. The Chairs will work together to create programming for the group, recruit and sustain membership, communicate with the group, and the Lead Chair will serve as an intern member on Second Harvest’s Board of Directors.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit new members by actively seeking out opportunities to share about Friends of the Food Bank to stakeholders.
  • Work in collaboration with Second Harvest’s Friends of the Food Bank Committee to discuss outreach tactics and engagement opportunities for current members.
  • Manage membership life cycle from recruitment to rolling off the program.
  • Work in collaboration with Second Harvest’s Volunteer Engagement Program Coordinator to schedule shifts.
  • Communicate all Friends of the Food Bank updates and events with members.
  • Attend FOTFB volunteer shifts and events regularly

Time Commitment 

  • Monthly 30-minute check in call with fellow Chairs and Second Harvest’s Friends of the Food Bank representative.
  • Regular email communications
  • Time commitment: approximately 4 hours quarterly not including volunteer/event attendance
  • Lead Chair
    • Attend monthly Friends of the Food Bank committee meeting with Second Harvest staff
    • Attend quarterly board meetings (these typically take place during regular business hours)
    • Serve on board subcommittee and attend meetings
    • Time commitment: approximately 6.5 hours quarterly not including volunteer/event attendance

Term Limits 

Chairs will serve for eighteen months, from July 1, 2026 - December 31, 2027.
