Feeding Hope

For some Middle Tennessee families, we’re their only hope of putting food on the table.

The need for food always spikes during the holiday season. In light of the pandemic, we expect to see a record number of families seeking food assistance. We don’t want anyone to be turned away. Please read on to learn more. Because hunger never takes a holiday …

After such a tough year

we should all have the comfort of a warm, nourishing meal

What we do

Second Harvest gathers donated and surplus food from many sources, including grocery stores and local farms. We raise funds and write grants to buy food at bulk prices. We store that food safely in our warehouses, and distribute it to 460 nonprofits that help our food insecure neighbors in Middle and West Tennessee. We also operate feeding programs like BackPacks, easy-to-prepare food that at-risk children can take home from school. This work is only possible because of our amazing family of volunteers and supporters.

During the pandemic

During this pandemic, an estimated 16% of Middle Tennesseans are suffering from food insecurity. That’s a 33% increase from 2018 levels.

We’ve re-invented ourselves to meet the surge in demand and to ensure everyone’s safety. You may have seen in the news the long lines of cars at our drive-thru food distributions, or our creative collaborations with local restaurants while they were closed.

You can feed hope

Although holiday meals and celebrations will be much different for most of us this year, please remember those who don’t know if they’ll have any meal at all. If you’re one of the lucky ones who can help, please consider a gift today to Second Harvest. A full, balanced meal can bring a real sense of security in this time of uncertainty.
