Southern Branch Opens in Rutherford County

In an effort to better serve those facing hunger in Middle Tennessee, we are excited to announce the opening of our Southern Branch!

Last Thursday, we strengthened our commitment to our mission and the people we serve by opening a Southern Branch in Rutherford County.

This 86,000 square-foot distribution center will house food bank operations for 15 counties, our Reserva del proyecto team, and a volunteer center.

Most importantly, the Southern Branch will allow us to more effectively and efficiently serve our Partner Agencies and the 97,000 food-insecure individuals in our southern region.

Rutherford and its 14 surrounding counties have been a part of our service area since 1979. Today, we work with over 110 Agencias asociadas in the area, including Greenhouse Ministries, the Domestic Violence Program, and Loving Care Ministries.

By increasing our capacity to store food and distributing that food more efficiently, we will be better able to serve our Partner Agencies and in turn, better able able to assist those facing hunger.

The following Saturday, we welcomed the first volunteers into the Southern Branch. Fifty volunteers from Nissan sorted 8,200 pounds of food, which will provide over 6,600 meals to families, children, and seniors struggling with hunger.

Volunteer opportunities for ages 12+ are now available at the Southern Branch. To sign up, login to our volunteer website and choose the Southern Distribution Center Calendar at the top of the page.

This new distribution center would not have been possible without the Christy-Houston Foundation, Shawn and Jennifer Kaplan, Tennessee Farm Credit, Publix, Adams Family Foundation, Bob Batcheller and Melissa Palicka, Ole South Properties, United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties, Eric and Niki Hensley, Charity Circle of Murfreesboro, the Smyrna Rotary Club, and many others.

We thank them for their generosity and for bringing us one step closer to ending hunger in Middle Tennessee!
