Damarres, 8, is a second grader at Purpose Preparatory Academy in Nashville. “My favorite thing to study is science,” he says. “It is a very good thing to learn.”
Each afternoon, Damarres looks forward to the afterschool program at Madison Community Center – a Second Harvest At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program site.
“I like coming here because you can have a snack and go to the playground and play basketball in the gym,” he says with a smile.
Damarres already understands that good nutrition is important for a growing kid like him.
“You need food to play sports,” he says. “You wouldn’t be able to run fast without food.”
He knows that good nutrition is also helping him focus on learning the science he loves and fuels his dreams for the future.
“I want to be a minister like Martin Luther King, Jr. because he was a good person. I want to be a good person like him,” Damarres says with sincerity.
Thank you for your generous support that is helping boys and girls like Damarres live up to their potential by providing nourishing food through Second Harvest and our nearly 450 partners
