Eddins Family: “You can serve alongside your children and help others”

Clint and Michelle Eddins started bringing their daughter Avril to volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee’s family night shifts about two and a half years ago. Now that Avril is 12, the family volunteers during regular sorting shifts while still coming back to family nights whenever they can – serving a total 60 hours!

“We always have a great time. I love how awesome everyone who works here is and how they are really passionate about their work,” said Michelle.

For the family of three, volunteering has become an important part of their lives, and they often encourage their friends and family to join them.

“It’s one of the only places where you can serve alongside your children and help others as a family,” said Clint. “It’s super fun!! They are very well organized, and all the coordinators are amazing!”

“It’s a great atmosphere where you can laugh and enjoy yourself but feel good about helping others too,” said Avril.

The Eddins consider themselves more than Second Harvest volunteers but also ambassadors for the mission to fight hunger in Middle and West Tennessee. When the family was told that peanut butter is a most-needed food donation item, they began buying and donating a jar of peanut butter to a Second Harvest food donation barrel everything time they shop at Kroger.

“We’ve been doing this for a couple of years now,” said Michelle. “Second Harvest makes it easy to help your community. This place and everyone who works here motivate you to be a better person.”
