Employee Spotlight: Meet Carolyn

Every single donation made to Second Harvest crosses the desks of our Donor Services team, including Carolyn Sullivan. As Database Specialist, she is responsible for processing the generous funds donated to the food bank.

How long have you worked for Second Harvest, what is your role, and describe a typical day?

It will be four years in July since I first started at Second Harvest. My original role was Executive Assistant to former Second Harvest CEO Jaynee Day. Upon her retirement, I joined the Donor Services team as a Database Specialist. My typical day involves entering donations that we receive in the mail, speaking with donors, processing donor acknowledgement letters and honor/memorial cards, and special projects!

What do you enjoy most about working for a local hunger-relief organization?

I love the feeling that what I do has such a positive impact on others’ lives. I also love working alongside people with such passion and empathy for others. I’ve worked for many organizations, but this is a really special group of folks.

What is one of your favorite memories of working at the food bank?

I loved being part of the December 2020 Drive Thru Mobile Food Pantry, where we distributed food to our neighbors in need, in the food bank’s back parking lot. It gave so many of us–who don’t normally see it on a day-to-day basis–the chance to get a first-hand look at the impact our work has in the community.

When you are not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?

My husband and I write and record songs together, and we’re currently working on Album #3! The opportunity to further our craft and be around world-class songwriters is what brought us to Nashville in the first place!
