Back to School Hunger Relief

Second Harvest is ramping up our efforts to provide Back to School Hunger Relief.

The stress of homework and tests hits hard for some students. When children don’t have access to food at home or school, it’s impossible for them to learn.

Second Harvest believes every child deserves to focus on learning. Not where their next meal will come from. That’s why we make back to school hunger relief a top priority.

Our child-focused feeding programs provide consistent access to nutritious food so students can show up ready to learn and thrive.

School Food Pantries

Located on school campuses, these pantries offer discreet, stigma-free access to groceries for students and their families. They’re open during convenient hours and location and stocked with shelf-stable items.

Shelves stocked with bagged groceries, canned goods, boxed foods, snacks, and storage bins in a pantry or food bank setting. The room has white walls and a patterned gray floor. Back to School Hunger Relief

BackPack Program

For children who may not have enough to eat over the weekend, our BackPack Program provides easy-to-prepare food every Friday. BackPacks keep kids full over the weekend so they’re ready to learn come Monday.

At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program

When school ends, hunger doesn’t. Through the USDA’s Afterschool Meals Program, Second Harvest serves warm, nutritious meals at community centers, schools, and partner locations that offer afterschool programming.

Kids Cafe

Kids Cafe sites provide healthy meals and snacks in safe, nurturing environments. These programs also include enrichment activities and nutrition education to help children build healthy habits for life.

Back to school season should be full of excitement. To make that a reality, we’ve got to make sure kids have the food they need. With your support, Second Harvest can continue providing Back to School Hunger Relief across Middle and West Tennessee.
