Nutrition Month

March is Nutrition Month

At Second Harvest, we believe everyone should have equitable access to nutritious food and resources. Each March, we highlight the link between hunger and health.

When individuals or families experience food insecurity, they often rely on low-cost, low-nutrition foods. Combined with the stress of financial strain, this increases the risk of chronic disease. Managing an illness then drains resources further, making it even harder to afford healthy food, which perpetuates the cycle.

This March, we’re raising awareness of the link between food insecurity and chronic disease while working to provide more nutritious food to our community through our programs and partnerships.

Lifepoint Health is making communities healthier.

For the ninth year in a row, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is partnering with Lifepoint Health for Nutrition Month. We share a commitment to not just feeding our community, but providing nourishing food that supports long-term health. We are grateful for their partnership and dedication to building healthier communities across Middle Tennessee!

Since 2017, Lifepoint has donated funds, food, and time to increase access to healthy meals for more than 24,000 Tennesseans facing hunger.

Their support has helped:

  • Purchase over 3 million pounds of fresh produce.
  • Provide a week’s worth of groceries for more than 24,000 Tennesseans.
  • Expand our outreach to offer food boxes designed to help manage chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension.
