Celebrations are in order after two recent awards honoring Second Harvest and our President and CEO, Jaynee Day!

2016 Business With A Purpose Awards

The Business with Purpose Awards recognizes companies that create cultures of high integrity and that lead with purpose on a regular basis. Criteria also include demonstration of individual and company/organization leadership that practices good corporate governance. The sixth annual ceremony was presented by the Hilton and Sallie Dean Institute for Corporate Governance & Integrity at Lipscomb University.

Second Harvest was named the Business with Purpose Award winner in the nonprofit category. The awards’ Selection Committee was lead by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) Center for Public Trust in partnership with Lipscomb University’s Dean Institute for Corporate Governance and Integrity. The Selection Committee evaluated finalists based on their practices in the following areas: Corporate Citizenship, Employee Engagement, Ethics and Compliance Programming as well as Business Reputation. We were in the company of many of the city’s greatest leaders and companies, recognized in the following other categories: Private Company, Public Company, Professional Service Firm and Leader with Purpose.

This award truly recognizes the committed and ethical work that Second Harvest and its’ staff do on a daily basis to meet the needs of our community.

2016 Hunger’s Hope Awards

Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, presented the 2016 Hunger’s Hope Awards at their annual conference in late April in Houston, Texas. 

Jaynee Day, President & CEO, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, is this year’s recipient of the John van Hengel Fellowship. The award honors the ideals of the late John van Hengel, who developed the concept of food banking in the 1960s. It recognizes an executive director of a member food bank for his or her excellence in leadership, local impact and national influence, and commitment and entrepreneurial spirit in the area of hunger relief.

Jaynee Day is a pioneer in hunger relief – she continues to be at the forefront of leading initiatives well ahead of their time, and her work has been vital to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and the Feeding America network for the past 28 years. Her visionary spirit are best exemplified through various innovations that demonstrate her creativity and boldness in how she approaches problems and barriers to achieve success.

“Jaynee is a network veteran with a caring heart and great vision. Her work has been vital to both Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and the Feeding America network. In her community, she has played a founding role in SNAP outreach, advocacy efforts and reclamation partnerships. At the network level, Jaynee has served on the National Advisory Council, our Board of Directors and numerous national committees,” said Diana Aviv, CEO of Feeding America.
