A Legacy That Lasts

Nancy Petty spent most her life caring for people around her, and she made a way to make sure she could continue to help her community for years to come.

Nancy was born in 1940 as the youngest of five children. Influenced by a school nurse in her hometown, she went on to nursing school immediately after high school. That was the beginning of a long, happy career as a registered nurse.

Inspired by her own family, Nancy initially began donating to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to help make sure her neighbors had enough to eat.

Through the years, she always participated in Second Harvest’s Stamp Out Hunger campaign by donating bags of food to be picked up by postal workers and taken to Second Harvest.

And Nancy also chose to name Second Harvest in her will as the sole recipient of two of her IRAs, thus ensuring that people across Middle and West Tennessee can continue to receive nutritious food long into the future.

In April of 2022, Nancy passed away at the age of 81. Her legacy of care and compassion will certainly continue to make a vital impact for our communities, and we are all better because of her generosity.
