For 32 years, Kroger has been a steadfast partner in creating a community where everyone can thrive, contributing over $3 million in donations and rescuing more than 21.5 million pounds of food. Their generosity and commitment have profoundly impacted the lives of thousands of Tennesseans.
The Power of ONE: Making a Difference Together
This year, during our Power of ONE campaign, we’re reminded of the immense power of collaboration. When we each take just one action, whether it’s donating, volunteering, or spreading awareness, we create a ripple effect that helps us move closer to a hunger-free Tennessee. Kroger exemplifies this impact. How Kroger multiplies their impact with Power of ONE is clear in the way they consistently turn their commitment into real, measurable change.
Leading Through Food Rescue
Since 2018, Kroger has provided $705,371 to support our Food Rescue program as part of their Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative. Through Food Rescue, Second Harvest works with 720 grocery stores, local farmers, manufacturers, and generous individual donors to recover fresh, safe-to-eat food that would otherwise go to waste. Last year alone, we kept more than 30 million pounds of food out of landfills and onto the tables of families in need—progress that would not be possible without partners like Kroger.
A Spotlight on Mobile Pantry Support
One of the standout moments in our partnership came in 2021 when the Kroger Zero Hunger Zero Waste Foundation donated $100,000 to fund 30 Rural Mobile Pantries across 24 high-need communities in Middle and West Tennessee. These mobile pantries distributed over 801,252 pounds of fresh fruits, vegetables, and pantry staples, serving more than 17,000 individuals and nearly 5,900 households. This initiative is just one example of how Kroger’s support reaches those who need it most, ensuring that even the most rural and underserved areas have access to nutritious food.
